Waterproof membrane systems for exterior decks and balconies, protecting the structure beneath from water intrusion and long-term rot.
Call 1 (855) 710-2039Deck waterproofing protects the structural framing beneath a deck or balcony surface from water intrusion, which is a common and often invisible cause of long-term rot. Unlike roof coating, deck waterproofing uses membrane systems rated for foot traffic, since decks are walked on directly rather than simply exposed to weather.
Water that penetrates a deck surface travels into the framing below, where it can cause rot that isn't visible until the damage is significant. By the time sagging or soft spots become noticeable, structural repair costs are typically far higher than what proactive waterproofing would have cost. On elevated decks and balconies, this deterioration can eventually become a genuine safety concern.
"A deck can look completely fine on the surface while the framing underneath is already compromised."
A technician evaluates the current deck surface and checks for any existing signs of water damage underneath.
The deck surface is cleaned and prepared thoroughly, since proper membrane adhesion depends on starting clean and dry.
Any existing damage is repaired before waterproofing is applied, rather than sealed over and left to worsen.
A foot-traffic-rated waterproof membrane is applied according to manufacturer specification, including proper coverage thickness.
Coverage and seam integrity are checked before the deck is returned to use.
Foot-traffic-rated materials. We use membrane systems specifically rated for walking surfaces, not repurposed roof coating products.
Structural checks included.Framing condition is assessed as part of the process, not assumed sound.
Proactive framing. We recommend waterproofing before damage occurs, not only after a problem is already visible.
They use related but distinct products. Decks are walked on directly and require a membrane rated for foot traffic, while roof coatings are formulated primarily for weather exposure rather than pedestrian durability.
Lifespan depends on the product used and traffic level, but quality foot-traffic-rated membranes typically provide several years of reliable protection when properly installed and maintained.
In many cases, yes, provided the existing surface is in reasonable condition and properly prepared. Our technician confirms suitability during the initial assessment.
Yes, elevated balconies are actually a common application, since water intrusion on an elevated structure carries added structural risk that makes proactive waterproofing especially worthwhile.
Most residential deck waterproofing projects are completed within a day, depending on deck size and any repairs needed before the membrane can be applied.
